4K buffers

hey guys ! nice to meet you, I got kinda same problem here… but only with HQ video (superior to 20mb/s 4k or 1080p). So here is the case : I have a dell t330 with a xeon 1220 v5, 16go ddr4 ecc, and all of my database inside the t330 server under 15rpm sas drives. I figured it would be enough to run a plex server with 4k videos but… epic fail, 4k videos keep buffering every 30 secs. I’m lost in the dark there… If anyone has an idea to explore I’d be glad. Oh and ultimately I want to access the server from outside my lan, which I can do today with 1080p under 14mbps bandwith. My Internet connexion allows 400mb/s upload so I cannot figure why it doesn’t work.

Your server is probably transcoding. 4K you should really be aiming at direct playing, so find out what is happening when you’re using that particular client, of which you didn’t mention.

If you search for “4K transcoding” you’ll land on many previous topics discussing this.

Your Xeon is quite old and slow. Not ideal for transcoding HEVC video.
