4K HDR HEVC HW transcoding is broken on 1.22.1.4200

@ChuckPa I didn’t turn on PMS verbose logging last night, but I did run the script to turn on transcoding verbose logging. Here is a new set of logs with both PMS and transcoder verbose logging enabled.

I’m also having this problem on a very new machine I just built this week. It took me awhile to sort through all the needed installations on such new hardware but I finally managed to get the GPU recognized and both vainfo and clinfo report detected hardware now. Unfortunately, I am having the issue where a 4K HDR transcode to 1080 SDR does not use the hardware at all and ends up using 60% CPU load to get the job done!

I reported in the other thread.

I cannot hardware transcode 4K HDR to SDR (tone mapping checked on) using the quicksync/iGPU of the i7 10700. In this situation it reverts back to main CPU transcoding. It does HW transcode if tone mapping checked off.

Im on UNRAID 6.9.2, plex version Version 1.22.3.4392

Engineering has this tagged for being complete around 1.23.0.

We’re testing and working out the kinks now so I would expect sometime soon.

For those with Rocket Lake — NO Promises due to the upstream issues.

What’s not working?

I had one log file on 1.22.0.4163 (Server.1.log) which is where the HW transcoding was fine. The most recent log was on 1.23.0.4438 (Server.log) which was software transcoding with tone mapping on.

Here’s another log from the latest update.

Dashboard is showing that it’s software transcoding.

What are the two different devices for?

One plays to Opus audio,
The other plays to AAC audio.

Both are calling for bt709 tone mapping in hardware.

What is different between your first and second tests?

What bothers me is that everyone else so far has reported this as fixed with -10xxx CPUs

Tried this one, still the same result. HW transcoding works with tone mapping off, but goes to software with tone mapping on.
