Hi all,
I’m facing the following problem on a family member’s laptop:
Video file: 4K 10bit HDR HEVC @ ±20Mbit
Players: Windows Plex Player and VLC
Player device specs: i3-8145U cpu with UHD620 onboard graphics (supports 4K HEVC HDR hardware decoding).
When direct playing a 4K HDR 10bit HEVC movie in the Windows Plex Player, the video is very choppy and a little out of sync with the audio. Also the whole system becomes slow while playing.
When I play the same video file directly in VLC, it is smooth and all good. And everything is still fast and snappy.
In the Plex options, the “use hardware acceleration” box is checked. And I tried the various video quality options from the lowest one to “make my GPU hurt”.
When playing in Plex, in Windows Task Manager, I see the GPU video decoding performance is at 80% load. When playing in VLC, it’s at 20% load.
Anyone a clue why it works fine in VLC but not in Plex Player? And how to solve it?
Thanks in advance!
