I am running the latest server on a mac. Playback flawless on several of my smart TVs. The issue is with a TCL 1080P. Any content in 4k results in error playing media. Have tweaked various settings on the player but no resolution. Stumped.
Mind sharing some more details about your setup?
e.g. what version of the Plex app do you have installed on your TCL, are you streaming from your own server or a shared library, local or remote.
All apps are the latest available. Streaming from my own mac based server. running flawlessly on multiple streaming devices in my home. It is just this one TV and only playback on 4k media.
What does the error message say?
Does the TCL run Android TV? Which version of the Plex app is installed? See your list of Authorized Devices.
Try to play 4K media and monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing. Does it show if the video is transcoding, direct playing, or direct streaming? I realize the video may never begin to play, but something might show up on the dashboard as the system tries to play the video.
If the Plex Media Server has to transcode 4K to 1080p and your server is not capable, then you will see an error message such as “server not strong enough…”
It runs Android and the latest available app. The error is “An error occurred while attempting to playback to this device. Please check your connection and try again”
