4k tone mapping suddenly not working

Server Version#: 4.145.1
Windows Server 2025 24H2
NVIDIA Graphics Driver 576.02

i7-14700F RTX 4060

Up until the last several weeks, streaming ANY kind of 4k media was flawless on any device. Then, suddenly, any 4k HDR content began to buffer constantly.

I have tried everything. Update OS, update drivers, update PMS. Ensure hardware acceleration is set to GPU.

When 4k HDR content is transcoded, both the GPU and CPU are put under load. I notice the load on the GPU is considerably less than I observed previously, and the CPU usage is substantially higher. I suspect that somehow PLEX is attempting to use both the GPU and CPU, though I am not sure if this is even possible.

**EDIT: I have confirmed that Plex Transcoding is loading the CPU.

At any rate I am sure something has changed. My clients have gone from streaming transcoded 4k HDR content (which is most of my library) to buffering constantly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I’ll throw this out there, have you tried deleting your PMS Codecs folder? It will force PMS to redownload fresh codecs.

I did, no luck. PLEX is still refusing to use the GPU to transcode HDR content.

I don’t understand the point of paying for PLEX pass if hardware accelerated transcoding isn’t going to actually work.
