My install is the following :
Server - Nvidia Shield
NAS - Synology
Since 5 days, and without any updates on my installation, it is now impossible to watch a 4K content from any other player except my shield.
On the shield the content is read directly, no issue.
However on the web client (LAN or not LAN), IoS(LAN or not LAN), my 4K content is never transcoded, and my content never started.
In the attached log, there is some error, but I can not understand them.
I have disabled IPV6 on the Nvidia Shield, the cache is cleaned, restarted it… checked that my client are updated… etc…
I have the Plex Pass…
There is probably some simple problem causing what you are seeing BUT I recommend against using the shield as a server unless your library is quite small. It is woefully under-powered and really not that good anyway. I do have a neighbor that is using her Shield as a server and it works well but her local library only has about 250 titles in it. When I tried to use my Shield as a server, over 3,000 movies and a couple hundred TV shows, it simply choked and died. I moved to a computer and, since then, everything has mostly been OK. I do not even have any 4K content to overload it.
For me the Shield is almost a decent client, I like both my Fire TV and my Roku better as clients. The Shield is a very powerful device but under powered to be a server and a bit to glitchy for me to use as a client.
Thanks for your feedback, but I am quite happy with the Shield as a server. i am using it for almost 10 years now… and even if not perfect, works good enough for my reasonnable library.
I have reinstall and reconfigure the entire Server on the Shield and the problem is still the same. Not experty in reading logs, but ut is lention I/O issue I believe.
Any ideas ? I am quite frustrated to not be able to find the solution…
Try turning off HW encode, it is currently broken when using Android clients but works for web clients. It has been broken for some time apparently so no idea why your problem only started in August.
You can leave decoding (Use hardware acceleration when available) on as this still works.
