4K transcoding with Quattro P400 win 10

Hi all

Just installed an Nvidia Quattro P400, working and transcoding 1080 rips no issue, if I try a 4K rip the house does not transcode and just uses CPU. I have latest nvidia drivers and latest version of plex, the odd thing is if I play the film on the machine itself it shows use of the gpu, if I try on ipad, shield etc it only uses cpu.
Any ideas, cheers Fergin

without logs, impossible to say.

what does the plex web dashboard show ?

do you have ‘tone mapping’ enabled? if so that will use the cpu on windows. you can disable tone mapping in the server settings.

Thanks for reply

I will try get some logs up, I generally don’t need to transcode 4K gigabit Ethernet throughout house but was interested to see what it was like and started bugging me when I couldn’t get it to work

Fergin

the plex dashboard will show you right away if the transcoding is using (hw) for both decoding/encoding video.

and check the tone mapping setting.

Thanks, turned tone mapping off, still seems to use cpu

I have just played a 1080p file, dashboard shows hw decoding, trying 4K file does not show hw decoding, I’ll see if I can get some logs up tomorrow, thanks for help

Is the file 4k hevc or 4k h264? NVidia cards do not typically support 4k h264.

Thanks

Wasn’t aware of that I’ve tried multiple files with no success not sure I’ll have to check

Fergin

If you provide your PMS logs after trying to transcode a 4k file, I can look to see what’s going on.

Hi

Just tried several files, and attached logs

Thank you

Fergin

Your logs show you still have tone-mapping enabled. Your GPU doesn’t appear to be able to handle the tone-mapping so it is reverting back to the CPU because of that.

Strange, sure I had the box unchecked, just looked again and still unchecked, I’ll try a reboot and see what happens

Cheers

Seems to be working now

Thanks, strange not changed anything just restarted pc
