Hy every one,
I recently purchase plex pass because of the new implantation of hdr to sdr tone mapping. The tone mapping work well but to do so i’m using a nvidia quadro p620 with patch applied to transcode my 4k hevc main 10 hdr file to lower resolution. I’m able to see in the plex task web page that my gpu is actively using both nvdec en nvenc chips but it’s not using them above 11%. In result Tautulli inform me that the transcoding speed is lower than 1 and of course i’m buffering every 5s. When i’m playing with pgs subtitles it’s worth. The only way i found to transcode 4k bluray whitout buffering is to : not use subtitles and lower resolution to 720p 4Mbps or lower to have a transcoding speed above or equal to 1 and even so my gpu is only using 20% of nvdec ? I have seen other people have such problem on windows 10 but none of there suggestion work for me and i’am seeing the same issue on my other plex media server windows 10 with nvidia gt1030 only hw deconding because it does not have a nvenc chip but my cpu ryzen 3600 doesn’t suffer to encode for him.

Unfortunately tone mapping is only supported by hardware under Linux right now. I’m having the same issue as I’m running pms under windows server 2019. My 5960x only gets utilized by 40% and the movies buffer every 5 second like you unless I max out at 4mbit. I just turned off the feature for now until I can figure out what to do.
Thanks for the answer. So if you turn it off your GPU is used more than 10% and you can transcode 4k hevc main 10 HDR file at 1080p without buffering ?
Yes, it should go back to how it was before the tone mapping feature was introduced. Unfortunately the it will also go back to hdr content looking awful on non hdr screens but I don’t see any other choice but to turn it off for now.
Thanks i will try. I’m New to GPU transcode si i didn’t know if it was possible on windows 10 to transcode 4k with a quadro card. Which one are using by the way ?

I actually regret getting the 1650 as it only supports two transcode at a time, stick with the quadro cards.
You can use the nvidia patch. It’s what i’m using for my quadro p620 to allow more transcode at one’s. Before i was stock at 3 transcode know i can reach 5. Didn’t try more but i assume it could

I did not see any problem with this patch. Safe to use.
Could you tell me After how much 4k transcode did you achive?

I m not ready to Linux because i would like to use cad software which are only usable on windows

Yeah, and my server is running freenas in vm with 10 hdd attached. A move to Linux would be a huge inconvenience.
I am too i’m using proxmox i have one feenas VM with a lsi card passthrough and one Windows 10 pro VM with my quadro passthrough. I will add another Windows 10 VM with a 1660 passthrough soon.
Haha that’s a lot of machines, I want everything to go on one. Otherwise I could solve the problem by having it run on my gaming rig with a ryzen 3900, I’m sure it would be great enough.
