I want to play a video with an audio stream encoded in AAC/5.1, and rasplex reports the audio track correctly in the audio menu while playing the movie, but on my a/v receiver the stream appears as stereo. If I play the same video on my Plex Mac player, connected to the same receiver via optical audio, the receiver recognizes the stream as AC3 / Dolby Digital, and the output is correct (i.e. it looks like Plex server transcodes AAC/5.1 correctly to AC3/5.1).
The settings in rasplex and Mac Plex are the same (AC3 and DTS capable set to true, speaker config 5.1).
Have you tried 0.3.1? Did you make sure that you checked the box in RasPlex preferences saying your receiver can decode AC3?
Have flashed 0.3.1, even though boxes were checked for both AC3 and DTS, speakers set to 5.1, AC3 (Dolby Digital) plays fine, AAC5.1 plays as stereo!
Regards
[Edit]
Have played the same files on Plex for Samsung (which uses Plex HT) and Plex HT on my Macbook (connected via HDMI) and the AAC5.1 files play fine, still stereo on Rasplex.
(DVDs ripped using Handbrake on high setting which should include an AC3 track for pass through)
When I play movie files on rasplex 3.1 and press “I” button on the my keyboard, under settings (I have ticked receiver can decode dts and dolby decoder.)
Rasp pi is connected to a Denon x3000 bought a month ago and up dated to latest firmware last week, but the audio file is only stereo according to the amp and amp information screen lists it as a PCM signal in stereo only.
I would suggest waiting for 0.4, the experimental release 9.9.18 seems pretty stable, shouldn't be too long before a release (unless someone can find a showstopper).
I am now on 0.4.0rc1 and can confirm that even though AC3 and DTS passthrough are activated and channel count is set to 5.1, that AC3 (Dolby Digital) plays fine, but AAC5.1 still plays as stereo! Playing the same AAC5.1 files via Plex DNLA (that is, not through Rasplex) the files play as 5.1!
This really needs fixing as AAC5.1 nows seems to be a popular encoding for DVB-T and DVB-T2 recorded HDTV programs.
Files that are showing as Dolby Digital 5.1 are playing as stereo,
I did find that plex output was set to 2 channel, so I changed that and rebooted. still no luck
I then changed checkboxes to DTS and AC3 capable amp and reboot, still no luck
All the settings on the server look ok.
I did notice that my AMP detects that the Rasplex is stereo as soon as you turn it on. Other devices such as the playstation come up as 5.1, so I'm thinking it might not be playback, but something in the OS is keeping it to 2 channel. I even switched the cables around to rule out AMP configuration.

I would expect this is a high priority to fix.
Quite a few things changed from rc3 to rc4. Have you tried the latest version?

Still not working, and won't until the Gotham merge, no guarantees that it will then. There is a conversation in one of the issues on Github, anybody that's interested can follow progress there.
