AAC 5.1 files plays as Stereo

I have started a new thread for this topic as the original thread (https://forums.plex.tv/topic/77016-51-ac3-problem/) had the wrong title and therefore may have been missed.

AAC 5.1 files still only play back as 2.0 stereo in 0.4.0rc2, however, I found an interesting post here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=148704&pid=1639848#pid1639848 that states that OpenELEC 3.2.4 has fixed this, any reason why it’s still not available in Rasplex?

Regards.

That's very interesting, I wasn't aware the support was so new.  RaspBMC has definitely backported it to Eden, I just tested it the other day and it works wonderfully.

Realistically, we may have to wait for PlexHT to merge with Gotham, and Rasplex to merge with that version of PlexHT, to get this fix in Rasplex.  Unless somebody is willing/able to backport the fix directly into Rasplex.

Did this ever get fixed?
I still can’t get AAC 5.1 files to play properly… (using latest 0.71)

Yes it is fixed, but you need a Receiver capable of accepting LPCM multi channel. You need to configure your setup RPi->Receiver->TV and set Audio output channels to 5.1. If your RPi is connected directly to your TV it will not work as nearly all TVs only support 2 channel PCM.
