5 votes are not enough

As I mentioned in the temporary thread announcing the forum changeover, I made the argument that 5 votes per person, to be spread across feature requests for all Plex products, were not enough. Now that the changeover is complete, and I have allocated my 5 votes, I want to reiterate that argument, and ask that the vote allocation be increased. Ideally, I think each person should have 5 votes per Plex product area. If it’s not possible to restrict votes on a category basis, then at least increase our overall votes to, say, 15.

I see your point especially if your votes will be tied up for months/years. To be honest, I don’t see the voting thing working for that very reason. Meaning, how many votes does something need to be considered by the PlexTeam? And how long does it need to be requested?

Yes, this is especially important if our votes are going to be tied up with no idea when we get them back.

It is also important that Plex frees up our votes when they decide to implement a feature request, and not hold onto the votes until it is actually implemented. They no longer need my vote on that feature at that point, and I don’t want to wait months or years to reallocate it to a feature that has yet to be decided.

This may go against Plex’s policy of not revealing their plans, but they’re just going to have to get over that in this case. The fewer votes we have, the more important it is that they be released sooner, rather than later.

You can take your vote(s) back yourself, if you feel that it is better spent on a different request.

You should be able to see an overview of your spent votes by

  • clicking on your avatar in the upper, right corner of the forum.
  • Then onto the small ‘cog wheel’ icon
  • then on ‘Activity’ - ‘Votes’

From there you can directly visit each topic you voted on and revoke it.

That defeats the point in the whole voting system and gives Plex Inc a cop-out.
Let’s say you do use all 5 votes and two years pass and nothing. So you see another feature you want so you remove one vote to add it to the new feature. Two years later… Now what? Are we supposed to shuffle our votes around indefinitely? Just playing a game with no end.

There is no need for a cop-out, because the feature suggestions are merely that: suggestions. As is spelled out here Please Read: Before submitting a feature Suggestion

Yes, that is the idea. The scarcity of a resource provokes a more thoughtful spending behaviour. The goal is to have those votes to represent the most pressing topics and not just a “ah, yeah. Nice to have that too”'.

Ahh… Thank you. That’s it. Which makes this system useless.

Yes it is. Okay, but how long? If you give it enough time any one request can have 100,000 votes.

I’d start actually worrying about the number of votes when and if it’s determined they’re actually doing anything. Those 5 Dummy Hand Grenades behind the ‘Break Glass In Case of Kraken Infestation’ sign are probably MORE than enough.

Feature Requests = Placebo: Designed ONLY to placate irate masses. The Feel-Good Candy - so every user can feel like they have a part in a process users play no part in - on a Forum akin to a Labyrinth where every turn leads nowhere - Users perpetually lost in the Design Fog that never lifts.

Wait a minute. Then who cares how many votes we get. Give us 1 million votes. If it means “suggestions”(nothing).

You’re right. The only hope we have with the feature suggestions voting system is that by some miracle an employee at PlexInc thinks holy crap that’s a great addition to add. Why didn’t I think of that. Of course they will need to feed it up the food chain to see if it can be approved BUT this would be the only hope we can gain from this system.

Yeah, I know, but that assumes I no longer care about the issue where the vote currently sits. It also doesn’t address the situation where Plex has decided to implement a particular request, and no longer needs my vote. In that situation, I don’t know that a decision has been made, and I am likely to leave my vote there for as long as it takes Plex to implement the feature. My vote should be released when the decision is made, just as (they say) it would be if they decided not to implement it.

Sorry, that won’t happen. For market-strategical reasons, there will be usually no advance notice to the public what features will get implemented before they are done.

The vote will be returned when the feature is eventually released.

Then increase our vote allotment, as I requested in the OP. The fewer votes we have, the more onerous this situation is.

Don’t vote! It only encourages them.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I don’t even know why I’m in this discussion. It’s not like I really care about the inevitable outcome. Guess I like to express my opinion, lol.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a bit hard to swallow, this voting thing and I don’t blame Plex Inc and any of the PlexTeam. I blame us. The believers. In thinking it makes a difference. Here’s an example of what could happen. We have 15 outstanding feature requests that have about 5,000-10,000 votes a piece and then a 16th request is posted but gets no vote at all.

Three months later, that 16th feature request(with no votes) gets implemented. Why would that be. Could be many reasons. Maybe it was something so easy to add, so they added it. Could be something an Plex employee has been wanting to add for a very long time so… They did. Could be anything. My point I guess is the voting will not help as much as the existence of the request itself. I’d say take your votes back @beckfield.

TOO scarce and it just becomes frustrating.

Nothing is set in stone. Let’s just evaluate this approach for a while. The limit can be raised later easily.

So… I should spend a vote on this “suggestion”?

Which was my secondary purpose in posting, to start that discussion.

Not being in the Feature Suggestions forum, you can’t vote on it. But please do add your opinion, so we can keep the issue in focus.
