I’ve been noticing that my movies are too heavy in the front and not enough coming from the back so I tested it and sure enough I’m getting the rear and side channels copied to one another but never distinctly.
Is this a bug with my test or can Plex actually not play 7.1 through XBox One X?
Xbox one can’t play 7.1 or DTS at least using the Plex App. You can use VLC or Kodi app on Xbox one which play’s 7.1 and other unsupported formats that don’t work on Plex flawlessly but obviously that’s only from playing directly off a HDD connected to the Xbox or over DLNA (VLC & kodi)
What i do is convert my 7.1 audio to ‘5.1’ by extracting the 7.1 audio out of video file separately using MKVtoolNix and then open it using XMEDIA Recode and select ‘AAC 5.1’ as the format and bitrate at ‘384kb’ or to whatever your preference is. After that remux your video file with the newly converted audio file (5.1) using MKVtoolNix again and it should play fine without any buffering or transcoding (Direct Play).
I know this cos I do this all the time hope this helps.
thank you for your reply.
wow that’s sort of unbelievable (but obviously I believe it given my experiences). is the issue on the xbox side or the plex side?
I really love the plex ecosystem but this is sort of a deal breaker.
kodi didn’t work, no audio on speaker test file
this file crashed on VLC on PC so not expecting it to work here…
VLC decoded the file as 5.1
I think I’m about done with this Xbox. It doesn’t play a single file in 7.1.
