No 5.1 Sound

Apologies if I've missed something here.

My Xbox is plugged into my AVR, 5.1 works great in games

In Plex however I only get sound out of the front pair.

This seems to be regardless of source, I've tried avi, mkv and mp4, all of which show as being 5.1.

Is this just not supported currently?

My Xbox is currently set to BitStream over HDMI, is this the problem? Should I set it to 5.1 uncompressed and let the Xbox do the decoding?

I believe the xbox media player app does not support any 5.1 codecs atm....  really should just allow a passthrough but I don't think it does that either.

I changed the audio output from bitstreaming to 5.1 uncompressed, 5.1 audio is now working well :)

(Sorry if everyone already knew this!)

Hmm, mine is set to Bitstream Dolby Digitial 5.1 and my 5.1 movies work fine like that.

The down side of this is that if I have a movie that is 2 channel it only outputs to the left and right of my speakers instead of the pro logic kicking in a spreading over all the speakers, the only way to get this to work the way it should is back to 2 channel on the xbox. Pretty annoying so I end up not using my AVR as much as I'd like.

Note: I know this is not a Plex problem, and I've griped many times on the user voice and xbox forums. Just spreading the info.

Shouldn't it be possible to setup a transcoding profile on the server that would apply pro-logic decoding to 2-channel content so that it outputs properly on the xbox?

That could certainly work, but obviously plex would have to do that from within the Xbox application.
