7.1 TrueHD from Nvidia Shield Server on Player - transcoder impossibly slow / failure

Yes, I discovered that ages ago… Transcode folder, yes, if you have it set correctly manually it will use the external location… but Plex completely ignores your choice of external storage for the cache folder which is ridiculous on a device like Shield TV with such small internal storage. Not to mention it’s flash storage that probably doesn’t have great write endurance and can’t be replaced so I live with the knowledge knowing that Plex is slowly killing my Shield TV.

They seemed disinterested in treating this like a serious problem warranting fixing, and seem to have been focusing on the retro games functionality that nobody asked for and nobody wants instead.

Just to follow up on this, I opened the file in FX File Explorer’s built-in media player and it plays flawlessly. Given this I’m not sure why Plex can’t just play it directly despite claiming that “E-AC-3 audio is not supported by the device”.

That app is probably using software decoding for everything. Plex relies on the devices hardware.

hi there , have you been able to check /confirm if a fix is possible for the issue with the Sync folder staying in the internal storage?

I was able to confirm that the Sync folder does not move. Not sure why. I don’t have any news on when this may get fixed.
