Why would a 25mbps file generate 700mbps when looking at the dashboard? seems to be the file cause it happens on my shield 2019 pro and my windows computer. The file is Dolby VIsion.
All the files from this particular release group do this. The file is 25mbps but when streaming generats 700+mbps on bandwidth used. And it buffers on direct play(how I found it)
Upon further investigation, my HDD’s are not getting hit with 700mbps of traffic. so it looks like plex is creating the excess data
Possibly a poorly muxed file.
If using MKV container, remux the file with MKVToolNix .
If using MP4/M4V container, see these two threads. They describe a similar situation & have a resolution.

If I lower the quality to 4Mbps, 720p HD, then the media plays fine with the video being transcoded and the audio being direct stream.
If I play the content directly on the Plex S…
I added exiftool commands to move the remaining metadata and remove the encoder tag from the remuxed files. Below I have included the script I used to go thru my library. I am batching by TV Show I encounter to have errors, but it could easily be modified if anybody else has the same problems.
