A bit scare of updating Plex on my NAS

Hello everyone, I’m running an old version of Plex on my Synology NAS server, I’m running version 1.24.2.4973 and I remember the last time I updated I had some issues after the update, if I remember correctly after the update Plex lost the disk where I had had movies or something similar, so I had to configured everything again, not sure if this is normal after an update or I had an off issue, and I haven’t updated my server due to the fear of encountering this issue again.

Is this normal or did I had an issue during the update?

Are you using DSM 7 or DSM 6?

When you upgrade from DSM 6 → DSM 7, there’s a lot of things you have to do (the package can’t do it for you anymore).

When that happened, it looked like things were lost.

At this point, being at 1.24.2, I recommend several smaller steps.

  1. Get you upgraded to DSM 7 if not already there
  2. Upgrade you to 1.32.8 as an intermediate upgrade (a lot of DB changes)
  3. Let it start up and confirm it’s all working
  4. Upgrade to 1.41.2 (or there about) to get you into the 1.4x.x database schema
  5. Upgrade to 1.42.1 (current Public)

If this is correct, I’ll give you the correct SPK file for the machine.

Here’s the link for PMS 1.32.8 which works with DSM 7.0 → DSM 7.2.1
It will not work with DSM 7.2.2 or above (they made another change)

After this, AND you’ve given it time to stabilize (maybe a day or two to complete nightly scheduled tasks),

Next do the step to PMS 1.41.2

This will be another big database update as you cross the 1.40.0 boundary

(Lots of DB changes. I recommend making a backup of the Databases directory BEFORE upgrading. We can delete it after all is known stable)

After this update is known stable, (another few days), you can update to current Public release and be fully caught up
