I have just installed Big Sur 11.0.1 (20B29), Plex for Mac can’t playback any videos, reporting

A codec required for playback could not be downloaded. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again.
Error code: 1008

While Plex on Web is working fine.
BTW, it worked with Big Sur public beta.

I tried to delete Plex for Mac and reinstall, nothing changes.

It works now.

It would be quite helpful if you said what you did to fix it…

I didn’t do anything.
It’s more like a temporary bug, try reboot both server and mac.

I have same error now:
A codec required for playback could not be downloaded. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again.
Error code: 1008

I have Plex for Windows: Version 1.25.0.1511-47afccd4 (Server Version 1.21.1.3842) and i have this error only on one computer. All other devices don’t have problems

I don’t use vpn. This error is show when I’m on the same network or outside, it doesn’t matter. Try already to delete app and reinstall, nothing happens… It doesn’t matter if I use wired or wireless internet, static ip or use Dhcp from router.

Sometimes on same pc show: An unknown error occurred (4294967279)
Error code: 4294967279

If i open from internet browser with IP Address everything is working.

I get the same error. Mine looks like this…

A codec required for playback could not be downloaded. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again.

Error code: 1008

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing fixes it. Kind of frustrating. It works great in a browser, but the app does not play video.

Anyone else out there have the same issue and a solution?

I am running a 2015 MBP, 2.8ghz i7, 16gb RAM, 2gb vram, macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

Plex Server: 1.23.0.4482-62106842a, May 4, 2021 running on Linux Mint
Plex Player: 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7, April 29, 2021 running on Windows 10

Like others here, same issue on one computer but not another. Uninstalled and reinstalled, but the issue persists.

Of course the old timey Plex Media Player still works just fine…
