A couple newbie questions

We are considering setting up PlexConnect on a Win7 machine to run the Plex server and view videos on an ATV2 and ATV3. After reading the installation instructions which indicate changing the DNS on the ATV to the IP of the Win7 machines running Plex Server, the first thing that came to mind is what will happen to all of the other apps on ATV such as Photostream, and Netfix? WIll they we able to access the internet?

Yes, PlexConnect will forward those DNS queries and get them resolved as before. There should be no noticeable difference to the original behavior.

Thanks for the reply. This may seem an obvious question, but does Plex Server need to be running on the same device that we install PlexConnect?

I run plex server on my QNAP NAS while at the moment I am running plexconnect on a windows server. So what I am saying is not it does now have to be on the same machine.

It doesn’t have to be, but it is the most common setup. I have PMS and Plexconnect both running on my iMac. Why do you ask?

thanks for the replies.  I'm running Plex Server on a QNAP NAS where all of the files are stored. I'm not entirely sure how I would configure PlexConnect running on a Windows machine to use Plex Server running on the QNAP.  I must state that i'm not familiar with Linux on QNAP, but am fairly computer savy on Windows.

Just run PlexConnect as it comes out of the box. Using PlexGDM, it should find your PMS.

Well, kudos to your work. It fired up and is working. In the command window I did notice it said 2 Plex Servers found.  I'm running only one and it wasn't the IP listed in the Command windows. I'm running Plex Server on 192.168.1.66, yet the command window is showing it connected to 192.168.1.67

Is this normal or did I not set it up properly?
