We need playback quality “best” which would look at the video format, and if it’s an encode that will stream fine on your device, direct stream it.
If it is a unorthodox encode for the current hardware, plex should automatically choose a transcode speed really close to the original.
If it is a 5.7mbps 1080p that won’t stream right, transcode it to 5mbps 1080p with more compatible settings.
This would solve all of my streaming problems with plex. Currently, I have to manually do exactly what I’ve typed here.

If not this, then you need to make a scanner that will scan our whole library, and give us a list of troublesome files, with an option to “optimize” them all in the background.
