Hey guys- I recently went on vacation and used plex as my primary podcast and music player. I have a lot of feedback, and it’s just easier for me to demonstrate visually in video form. Hopefully this reaches the devs. If you have any questions for me, I’ll be watching this thread. Thanks!
Podcasts has been abandoned, they don’t update it or supply any bug fixes for it. Just use something else, you would be better off.
Thanks for the video. You cover very important aspects. Couldn’t agree more on the points you make. Never been able to understand what “Delete downloaded episodes” does. As you correctly point out, there is no differentiation of whether or not the episode is played or not. For me that’s the main aspect if I want to delete an episode.
The time frame is completely irrelevant to me. If I can’t listen to an episode in a week why would I want to to be deleted. Maybe I want to listen in 2 months.
But I sure want episodes I have listened to, to be deleted to free up space on my device.
As discussed in the video, obviously users fail to understand what the setting even does. At least I can’t tell. I set it to “After a week” but when I look at the shows episodes there are downloaded episodes which I have listened to going back several months. So this is a serious problem, as space on my mobile device will be eaten up and I have to remember to manually do, what Plex should be doing automatically.
I would love for the Plex dev team to chime in on this and explain if they indeed plan to fix any of the problems. This specific problem with deleted episodes has existed since the first introduction of Plex Podcasts.
I don’t think podcast support is “dead” as Anijake claims. The last few updates I have seen changes to it. Most notably- podcasts are no longer listed in the Downloads & Sync area, which resolves one of my UX criticisms.
Plex is a big program with many clients. Gotta have patience.
I agree. Podcasts in Plex still needs a lot of work before it can become my daily podcast app.
Today, I was looking at consolidating my media apps to Plex only and started playing around with the Podcast function. Coming from PocketCasts, there is too much of a difference in functionality and usability for me to switch without many or all of the things listed in this video being addressed.
I hope it happens, I would love to just use Plex. But I can’t as is.
I’m actually quite pleased with using the new plexamp for podcasts- although that needs some changes as well. Haven’t collected my thoughts yet, might require a new thread.
