A New Experimental Plex Front End

Thanks. I’ve just been told that it has already been raised on GitHub - I should have started there.

I think we’re all just used to posting issues here because of how Plex operates. If only they had a github or literally any proper triage system

Chris,

You might want to add the GitHub link to your 1st post for any newcomers to this thread.

Tony

Great thought, thanks Tony I will do that.

True.

I raised the first GitHub issue for Genus, but still came here to ask the question above

Happy New Year everyone! I am prepping an another beta of Genus to release, hopefully next week. Fixes for 10-15 bugs and some new features and improvements. Thanks for being a part of things!

Tried out your app and saw the coming update and it looks really sleek.

Really like that you focusing on the Native Player, Ive always thought that is the best way to go to get the best playback - but even with the latest production app the native player seemed like an after thought.

Would love to see Live TV with an EPG implemented, and I’m sure judging on the rest of your app that it would look really sleek.

Any plans for skip intro, ads and credits any time soon?

@ahmadm258 this is a great tvOS.xml you have created. However may I recommend another location for your file.

I find that if you put it in this path you’ll get better results.

/Applications/Plex Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Profiles

I would [re]name the exsisting tvOS.xml to tvOS.xml.orig. This way you can revert to this version if needed. I will say this once I copied the file in here and booted up PMS again. I was able to play files I wasn’t able to do so without any issues. So good looking bro, nice work!:100:

Now the downside of using this method is that if another PMS comes out. You’ll have to copy this file back in here once again. Mainly due to the fact that every release of PMS defaults back to its shipping version. Sure, it’s a pain. we can all agree on that. However this method has been reliable with each release of PMS. Even the betas versions.

I believe Chris has already hard coded this profile in the app now.

Hey just a quick update. I am battling a bug with the new menu system that is necessary for those of us with larger, more complicated libraries. I can’t release this until I have that squashed. So, haven’t forgotten, lost interest, etc!

Hey everyone! Sorry for the massive delay! I just submitted a new testing build to apple. It has a metric crap-ton of updates, covering as many of the bugs report and updates/features requested as I could.

It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely better than the last build! As always leave any bugs/suggestion over on the Genus GitHub site:

Hi Chris, congratulations on the app, I’ve just started testing it and I already think it’s beautiful, keep it up!

I’m just curious, maybe you (or the others in this thread) can answer my question. How do Infuse support all the codecs and containers in Direct Play mode? After about a year of use, I haven’t encountered a single file that isn’t compatible. HDR10, DV, everything works. Don’t they use the same player you do?

Infuse uses a 3rd party player, not sure which one, but is isn’t an Apple based one. Direct play just means playing the file with little to no changes to it, which just means the codec is supported. For the AVPlayer based experience we have in Genus right now, that means apple supported formats, for the players that are used in other apps, it could be one of a handful of player toolkits that support more formats.

I think they’re using some sort of heavy modified (in years) ffmpeg.

If you had an answer, why did you ask?

They do mention FFMPEG in their app’s about page, so big shocker there.

But they’ve written their own video player.

I asked because I wanted to have a discussion with Chris, since he seemed very knowledgeable on the subject, then I did some research, I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Wondering if I could be added to testflight? Thanks

I want to test the beta on Apple TV. The app finds my server but does not display any lists/content. Unfortunately, restarting or rebuilding the server did not help either.
How does it work?

Reboot the Apple TV and it should pick up the server after that

I have already tried rebooting Apple TV and rebuilding the server, but it did not help.
