My family had a big rotation of phones this summer. Both I and my daughter got new phones and my wife inherited my old phone.
We had all camera upload activated on the old phones. So here goes:
Got Google/Apple to copy all apps to the new phone based on the old.
Transfered all photos from old to the new device
Logged in to Plex and enabled sync
Got 50GB worth of duplicates synced during our vacation over a slow connection with the same file name but a “-1” added before the suffix.
So I see I can stop and I can reboot sync. Then it will start all over again. There is not option to say that everything there right now is ok and that I’m only interested in Plex syncing new content.
Alternatively when starting syncing to a library/album it could be nice to have it check the phone for duplicates and not sync those.
Just noticed this request. There is currently a check. So if the camera upload library has multiple folders for different phones, when uploading an image copied from another phone, the server does check and actually indicate that it was found already and not duplicate it.
This is definitely what happens in my setup which is plex for iOS
There may have been periods of t8me when that did not work - when naming syntax changed perhaps
If you hav3 evidence of it replicating actual files now, please get some logs from the server with both verbose and debug logging enabled when the old copied file is re uploaded again
