A whinge about sync then several requests to make it better

Long time Plexpass user (since 2012) and really can’t wait for some parts of this to come out of Alpha / Beta! In particular, sync is the most inconsistent, unreliable and invaluable part of Plex for me as I do a lot of travelling. No matter what device I use (was Android tablet as primary, now MS Surface Pro), I have to ‘reset’ my sync options every few months. When you have a sync issue, the stock answer is ‘delete and start again’. Now I don’t have any issue with deleting media & syncing again BUT I have a major issue with having to do it manually.

The continual development of Plex is great and every so often, things are going to break - big deal. I can live with the fact that a feature or modification has borked my client build and can spare the hours required for my device to re-sync my 50+ TV shows that I have saved to my local device.

BUT for the sake of all that is good, please implement the following as soon as possible;

  • default sync options (I always sync unwatched, limit to 5 episodes, 8Mbps 1080p **not **the default ‘all shows, all episodes, no limit’. Who in their right mind wants 100’s of episodes of their alphabetically first TV shows that they have already watched synced).
  • export synced shows / movies for import later. Won’t avoid the pain but will make it much more palatable when I have to ‘delete and start again’. Preferred would be a regular task / job to save settings so you don’t have to remember.

Additional suggestions;

  • show TV Shows & Movies either in separate views or at least put a separator between them.
  • alphabetical order to avoid the many, many time I have synced the same show twice
  • only allow 1 sync per show per device (to avoid above)
  • have the option to delete a movie once watched rather than having to remove it from sync manually
  • when playing ‘locally’ indicate whether server or local copy is being used as I’m not convinced that ‘prefer local’ works all the time

So I don’t mind the re-sync but I do mind having to manually select each show and sync options that I want on my device. Each time I have to ‘delete and start again’, this takes several hours due to the clunky interface and not having default options. I’m sure the sync export will bring some challenges but the default options should be very, very easy to implement.

Please show your support by voting and save me (and many others) the agony of setting us our sync settings multiple times.

Having the sync option always default to all rather than unwatched items is a constant annoyance.

I’d add
The ability to select a bunch of shows and apply the sync setting to each show independently.

The last time I checked, you could do that but would apply the settings to all the shows. So instead of having it sync 5 episodes for each shows, it’d sync 5 episodes in total.
