Thanks. So we’re certain this is a server issue, not a client issue?
see comments above from developer (cloud + server changes)
Hi all. I noticed this morning that the new server update for Linux (PMS version 1.32.2.7100) appeared for me to download, and one of the updates is the AAC/FLAC problem discussed here. So for those using a Linux distro hopefully this fixes the issue. I’ll run it tomorrow morning and then circle back on whether it worked or not.
One fear I have is I’ll have to clear out all the albums I’ve merged from Tidal in the past in order to clear the AAC problem, but hopefully not.
i didn’t have to remove and re-add Tidal albums to my library, but i did have to clear the app cache in some cases before Tidal albums would show as FLAC
I’ll watch for that. I mostly use the web player, so maybe it doesn’t matter that much for me. ![]()
FYI, updated PMS with the latest version on Linux this morning, and the AAC confusion is now gone, and all Tidal-imported tracks are listed in their proper containers and bit-depth/sampling rate specs. Given that most my listening is done via the web player, there was no need to clear the app cache. Just in case anyone wanted to know if the update worked properly for Linux cli versions…
Thanks to devs for fixing this one. ![]()
Any further update to this issue? Does anyone else still have problems with it?
I read the post above says this is solved on Linux server, but for me running latest PMS on Windows I still get low quality playback for Tidal albums which have been added to a library in Plexamp. For me the files are AAC 96 and playback is virtually silent:
I’ve tried deleting albums then adding them back, and deleting the cache from Plexamp. But each time the tracks come back as low quality AAC 96. I’m not sure whether my problem is the same as those above, or something else.
this looks like a different known issue, one that still needs to be fixed (in Plex cloud, not in Plexamp itself, if i recall correctly)
spatial audio versions of some Tidal albums, for example … as i understand it, the lowest quality AAC 96 version is the only one without spatial encoding, so it’s the only Tidal quality level for these albums that Plexamp can play
there are usually (but not always) other Tidal album versions available that will play as FLAC in Plexamp … these can currently be found by searching in Plexamp for the album name rather than under the artist hub … see screenshots below for two ways of finding the album you showed
(Tidal artist hub)

(search for album name)
Ah yes, excellent. Searching for the album directly I can find FLAC versions. Thank you!
