Tidal added to library plays only aac320

I have a tidal hifi subscription (through plex).
if i add an album to my plex library it show and plays as aac instead of flac. It‘s not only a display problem. Plex dash confirms that an aac file is played.

Why is this bug still not fixed? I reported this behavior long time ago in now closed thread.

Same experience here … if there’s been any action on this, it seems to have helped only those who started their Tidal subscription directly thru Plex (not those who transferred or linked existing Tidal subscriptions)

For Tidal albums added to my Plex library (showing as AAC 320) … I also see AAC 320 indicated in Dash, but I’m not sure I believe it … at one point, I looked at the network traffic during playback (using windows resource monitor), and the amount of data transferred appeared consistent with playing the same tracks in FLAC format … but this is just a rough visual gauge, I don’t know how else to quantify … anyway, it shouldn’t be necessary

I subscribed new Tidal Hifi account through Plex and on plex info it shows Tidal premium but when i go to Tidal site it well shows Tidal hifi.
A wrong label from Plex?

I think just a labeling issue, Plex is using old terminology in some places … Tidal subscription tiers used to include Premium and HiFi (now HiFi and HiFi Plus)

Same experience here …
And how do you delete a track from library after adding it from Tidal? On the web player we can but on the android app?

Would like to refocus this thread on the specific issue described in the original post …

When Tidal HiFi content is added to a user’s Plex library, it shows as (and perhaps also plays as?) AAC320 rather than FLAC

In my case, I’ve linked an existing Tidal account to Plex, I’ve transferred my existing Tidal subscription to Plex, and I’ve let my Tidal subscription expire and then signed up again directly thru Plex … in all three cases, observations remain the same …

Some screenshots below to illustrate (I think these suggest a metadata/database/labeling issue, not necessarily an issue with the actual audio format from Tidal) …

Tidal album recently added to Plex library … codec badge shows AAC320

Track from that album being played locally on Android app … shows as FLAC, but with missing 44/16 label
(note, same observation for local playback on iOS)

Same track, but with Android app remote controlling playback on a headless Pi … shows as AAC 320

Plex Dash capture for the two playback sessions described above … here both show as AAC 320 (which is it for the local playback case … FLAC or AAC320? clearly it can’t be both at the same time)

One thing I’m not showing here is the data transfer from Tidal server … I’ve looked at this using Windows resource monitor, and data rates and download durations suggest that the tracks are indeed FLAC

Anyway, would really appreciate responses from Plex reps on this, as it appears to be a long-standing issue

don’t think thats the issue. a label could be fixed easy.
but that problem exists since tidal startet their hifi / hifi+ tiers.

agree, if it was a simple labeling issue on the plex side, it seems like the kind of thing that would have been fixed already

it sounds like I’m at least describing the same symptoms that others are seeing? any other observations related to this specific Tidal issue, please add them here, thanks

I have the same issue but in my case I resubscribed after a while and the albums that I had already added months ago are shown as FLAC and the new ones added as AAC

some additional info that suggests Plexamp is getting FLAC from Tidal, not AAC …

top photo is network traffic for a headless/pi install while it’s pre-fetching the next file to be played (this is a Tidal album added to my Plex library and labeled AAC) … total is ~ 80MB

bottom photo is info for the same 44/16 track that I own, stored in FLAC format on my Plex server … also ~ 80MB … no way Tidal is streaming the AAC version of that track, it would be ~ 1/3 the size
