Ability to convert a Managed User into a Friend

I’ve added my wife as a Home user but would like to convert her account into a standalone plex user. She actually already created a Plex account and I can invite her as a friend but she will lose all her history.

It would be great to have the ability to transfer this data from a home user account to an invited user account.

Seconded. I made a bunch of family home users, but regret it now. So much history I dont want lost from plex or tautulli.

Move a Plex User from Plex Home to Friend

If the user in the Plex Home is a Plex User, with their own Plex account, and not a Managed User, you can move them from Plex Home to Friends, keeping their view state, account settings, etc.

To do so, go to Plex Home, mouse over the user’s name, and click the X that appears on the far right. This will move them from your Plex Home to a Friend that appears in Manage Library Access.

Copy View State To Another Account

Use WebTools-NG.

This will copy view status from one account to another on the same server. This includes copying view status from a Managed Account (without a plex.tv account) to a Plex User (with a plex.tv account).

Both accounts must already exist and be invited to the Plex Media Server as a Friend or as part of a Plex Home.

Both accounts should have access to the same shared libraries.

  1. Download and install WebTools-NG. The tool does not need to be installed on the Plex Media Server.

  2. Launch WebTools-NG and login using the account that owns the server.

  3. At the top of the window, select the desired server (next to Reload button), and then click the Reload button.

  4. Click on Plex Media Server on the left, to expand the list.

  5. Choose View State Copy

  6. Select desired users. Click Copy.

The “User to copy to” may need to logout / login to see updated view state information.

I tested this on my server, PMS 1.28.2.6151 / Ubuntu, and successfully copied view state from a Managed User to a Plex User account.

I’m voting for this. I started out with Managed Users for my family, but after a while discovered that I could have done separate accounts and invited them into the home. This would have things look exactly the same, but allow me access to the Discover feature on Managed Users. Additionally, I could access friends servers on my own account without having to log in as the admin account.

That, or allow us to have “Discover” on Managed Users…

Question.
Does it also includes:

  • playlists
  • movie/series rating

?

The documentation only mentions viewed state information.

I have loved being able to have my kids as a managed user in my family, but as they get older and move out of the home I would love to be able to let them set up a plex account and link it to /migrate their managed account history to it. This ability seems like it would be a natural progression of many/most managed user accounts.
