My Plex has this nasty habit lately of randomly updating cover art of the posters for movies in my library. I have them all set how I want, but sometimes on ones I haven’t yet explicitly overridden, I will get some new version with blue/orange or photoshopped looking fan contributions. Can I just freeze my entire poster art / mark every title in my collection now and into the future as how I want them?
I second this, I hate when it decides to “update” my artwork for me. I especially hate when it grabs box art in a different language other that what I have it set for.
Manually edit poster on Plex is the last thing you want to do when it comes to personalized metadata. Once you do that you have to backup Plex directory as whole.
If you grab the same file and name it poster.jpg you’ll will only need to backup Plex db because your personalized posters will always be the same.
Just read this guide
Bonus: tiny media manager can get you all the posters and it’s free.
I’m just picking from the selection that shows up in Plex. Usually there’s one that is close to the original cover art, it doesn’t have to be exact.
What’s happening is that I will have them all how I like them, and then some new cover will pop up and it often is some fan-art photoshopped modern looking thing - blue and orange or what have you trendy looking. I do not want that on a movie from 50+ years ago, so I have to change them back.
I just want to put a freeze on the covers as I like them, instead of having them update at seemingly random. No desire to manually edit filenames and manage files by hand. I’d prefer not to have to deal with the plex DB by hand or at all.
Uncheck that and it should prevent Plex from updating the posters (and other metadata). But I think that’s a two-edged sword because if a sequel of that movie comes out, you won’t get the collection from TMDB.
In my opinion Local Assets is the best way to go.
Refresh local metadata every three days
and
Refresh library metadata periodically
were both ON in mine. I never even once clicked into that section of the settings. How amazingly dense of me. Thank you so much I bet you this might just fix it. I am capable to manually run updates when I need to.
