As a server administrator I would like to be able to share my media with friends and allow them to share it with other users in their home. When sharing the library I would like to have a checkbox where I could choose if I wanted to allow this for each friend.
Well, under “Freedom of speech” you have the right to wish this, and ask for a vote, but since I’m also allowed to comment, I do find the idea very bad, since the owner of the server will loos control of his shares, as well as CPU and bandwidth usage.
When said, I also fail to see the use case?
And hint, even though against it…
It helps your case, if you vote for it as well
the server owner allowing others to reshare is the request. not “let me reshare without permission”
use case is I share with my brother. and i want my bother to be able to share my movies with others in his Plex Home. Since I cannot directly share with my bothers managed users
Ups, missed that part, so stand corrected here, sorry
No problem, my original forum post was stated more like that and caused some confusion so I was trying to clear that up.
Thank you and sorry that the original post got a bit out of hand.
I think this request is very similar, if not the same, as this one.
I actually like this idea. Giving the me, the sharer of the library, the ability to allow my friends to extend the libraries i am sharing with them to their home users would be great. I mean heck I already control the ability for them to be able to sync my content why not rite?
I think the difference is this one keeps power in the server owners hands. The other asks to put power into the shares hands not mentioning requiring server owners consent. I think this one is better written
I love this idea.
I share with a number of households.
- I dont wanna manage every single user
- I want to limit each housholds number of concurrent streams to two, no matter how many users it has. Adding every single user ove every household will potentially add to much traffic to my server
Please, allow for this to happen. At least let it be an option.
I share Danes concerns but what if the user management is able to list a users managed users?
The maximum allowed streams per users would in itself prevent users from abusing this
I would support sharing to managed home users, because essentially they are the same as the home admin (to me).
Allowing re-sharing to un-managed home users, and/or to re-sharing to another admin’s regular shared users, is likely to be too unmanageable and impractical to consider.
Yea. Managed home users. Because, like you say, they are essentially the same as the home admin.
I imagine this could boost Plex pass sales as well. I know my users would love the feature, as I only add one person from a household and have them all share that one, which renders the watch history feature pretty useless for them.
I agree. We use one “Admin” account for all shard materiel and each user has their own tile for stuff that is on the local server only.
Note each young family member does not have their own plex account as they are too young in my mind the the reason we pay for the plex pass.
+1 and voted (as well as the other one linked above)
This feature request is a duplicate.
