Ability to sideload thumbs (8.bif) and intro detection metadata with media

Ran a few searches and didn’t see this, apologies if I missed it.

Arguably, two of the most resource intense processes for Plex is intro detection and thumbnail generation. The latter can also balloon Plex metadata significantly.

My feature suggestion is an option to side load bifs (thumbnail bundles) and intro detection marker data with the media. In addition to not bloating the metadata, it would also mean for those with more than one Plex server would only need to generate these items once. Or in a scenario in which the Plex server has a non recoverable event and backups aren’t feasible to restore, it would mean not having to process all that video and audio again.

Thanks for your consideration.

Amazing idea, this would be a wonderful implement from Plex.

There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing such an option (at least for the preview thumbs).

Similarly there’s a thread to allow providing Plex with a file specifying the intro markers

I suggest you comment/vote in those existing threads in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes (by having duplicate suggestion threads).

Edit: unless I’m missing some unique aspect of this suggestion, I’ll close it as a duplicate.

Can I prefer mine so I only burn one vote vs 2? I’m just kidding. Thanks for the links, I did try to search but I guess not well enough. You can close this one. Appreciate the info @tom80H
