I believe there's many people out there who own Enigma 2 DVB boxes who might be interested to stream audio and video from Plex Media Server. I thought it would be really great if Plex had a client for Enigma 2 or at least an interface / hub to be able to stream to being controlled by Plex clients on tablets, phones. I thought if it worked just like chromecast (supporting also the audio of course) it would be really great! :)
I believe it should not be too difficult to even make fully featured client if it already exists for Raspberry Pi.
yes, DLNA client plugin can be easily installed - but what's the point of your question? :) I'm certain that you know best that the functionality of DLNA client and the fully featured client (how not just as a remote) is uncomperable.
Well to make it work like a CCast would require adding DIAL support to the Enigma2, which Plex can't really do themselves but the Enigma manufacturer could.
DLNA would not be a problem other than you would have to use the Remote for the Enigma2 to control which many wish was possible with the CCast as well since it supports HDMI-CEC.
Me personally, I'm hoping all Video Hardware manufacturers will adopt the DIAL protocol and incorporate into their hardware.
It's the best way to support multimedia without the clunky navigation due to the fact you can use a touch device like a Tab or Phone made explicityly for navigation and ease of control far beyond anything capable via IR remote.
There's a plugin called DreamPlex for Enigma2 that's being worked on quite often. Pitty that right now It's missing DIAL and very important support to play music... but they will hopefully get there!
Right now they work on GUI but the truth is that DIAL would be a very clever workaround. Well, some people will probably appreciate the GUI but I personally prefer phone or tablet as the remote!

I look forward to the day that the set top box is retired and all TVs come with an M-Card like port that you plug into it to get your Cable subscription.
Unfortunately the M-Card is not that reliable or flexible at the moment and it relies on client side support to do a lot of the heavy lifting. Perhaps an update to that technology or some new card format can make that dream a reality.
