AC3 transcoding?

Hello,

 

Since Apple TV only has AC3 pass through, what happens when you play a movie that has an AAC, DTS etc (5.1) audio track? Will PMS transcode the audio to AC3 5.1 so you get correct sound to the correct speaker? Or do you need to re-encode your movies yourself to get proper Dolby Digital sound?

 

I've enabled Apple TV in the PMS audio advanced settings, and set Apple TV Dolby setting to on (in the Apple TV).

I believe PMS will send AAC as is and transcode DTS to AC3. With AAC 5.1 this apparantly results in the ATV sending stereo through HDMI to your receiver, though there is a possibility it will send AC3 over toslink.
