Access synced content with apple music app

Since Plex is not available on CarPlay, it would be nice if we could use Plex to sync content to an Iphone/ipod but then access the files though apple own music app which works with CarPlay. Just hate going back to itunes. Is this possible?

I also would like to see Plex integrate with CarPlay. Using the Sync allows me to download music to my phone to play on the Plex iOS app, but it means opening the app on my phone to switch CD’s, etc. Not a real big deal if I create a 100 song Plex Mix. Just wish Plex was integrated.

I still use iTunes to manage the metadata of my MP3 and all music is stored on the same NAS folder accessed by both iTunes and Plex. So I can sync music on my phone via iTunes to play on CarPlay, but I rarely do that. The big negative with iTunes is most of my music was ripped from my old CD’s so I cannt stream them from my NAS on the road like I can with Plex.

If I’m not mistaken, on iOS the music synced by any app is kept in its own app container, separate from the music synced by iOS/iTunes itself. I.e., other apps (including Music) cannot access Plex-synced music.

That’s my experience of it, just desperately trying not to use Apple Music and can’t navigate any other Music App from the car. I don’t have CarPlay so that wouldn’t help, but I like the suggestion of syncing music back to Apple Music from Plex.

If it’s iOS that keeps everything in separate folders, then maybe it’s that I need to move away from. From anyone’s experience, is this the same problem on Android?

Just vote for CarPlay Plex for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

You’re never going to be able to convince Apple to use the Music app to access other music files (the OS pretty much prevents it).
