I have Plex Media Server running on a NAS Installed in a RV. My clients are Samsung Smart TVs and iPads with Plex apps installed. The network in the RV connects to the Internet using a 4G mobile hotspot. Plex is awesome until I don’t have Internet access.
Our upcoming travels will take us in areas where internet connection will be problematic. Is there a simple way for the TV apps to access the Plex Media Server directly when there is no internet. I realize meta data for the movie library will be limited, but we will still want access to the movie library. We don’t want changes that accommodate access to the Server when there is no internet to impact features when we do have internet.

If the local auth has been turned off, secure connection isn’t required, and the server isn’t signed in, it should work. But please, do try it before heading out.
And also, remember that access inbetween Plex and apps are one thing - but you also need to do some work before heading out in regards of the actual media that should be played. Just installing your server, disconnect from the Internet and install it in your RV for offline use will probably not work very well. You need to go through your media files, pick a few that represents the codecs being used in your library (both audio and video), and actually play them while still on the Internet (so that Plex downloads all correct codecs).
Yep, worked great. The NAS with Plex Media Server was installed last year and we already experienced some needs to convert media. Otherwise I believe all necessary Codecs are installed. I’ll go through a sample of Media and then the same again isolating the RV network from the internet to make sure codecs are installed. Thanks for the help.
