Accidentally deleted Music library. When adding it back it is not indexing my music

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: 4.28.3

Yesterday I had issues playing back music through Plex and after some troubleshooting came to the conclusion that my Plex music library was corrupted and I need to delete and re-add it. Shortly after deleting it and re-adding it I ultimately figured out my mapped network drive was not connected and all I needed to do was reconnect the drive.

Unfortunately, when I attempt to create a new music library it is not adding my music. The scanner does a scan which can run for a hour or so but it only ever finds a couple of albums by “various artists” and that’s it. When I click on the “Activity” icon I see it is scanning and can find all of the directories with my music. But it does not add any music to my library (other than the few mentioned above).

I tried:

  • remapping the network drive to a different drive letter just to see if “moving” the media to a different location would help
  • Removing the “albums” and “artists” directory from my my local user’s AppData directory
  • Adding just one subdirectory of my music instead of my entire library
  • Restarting the Plex server

Any other ideas for how to proceed?

Revert to a database backup from before the outage

Perfect. If only this article was easier to find.
