Account hacked, email changed

I purchased a lifetime plex pass last year. I don’t use plex much, unless I am away from home. I go to login today, and plex cannot locate my account. Resetting password, nothing. Check my email and notice an email saying plex had a data breach, followed by a few emails saying mew user log in, and account email has changed. I cannot log into my account to contact plex. What’s my next step to recover?

<redacted> is the email it changed to.

<redacted> is my og account and what it should be under. It is also how I can be contacted, outside here.

I run plex off of an old desktop via open media vault.

Thank you for any assistance that can be given!

Mod Edit: Removed e-mail addresses. @FordGuy61

Not aware of any data breach. I received no such e-mail.

I believe the notice that the account e-mail changed has a link to revert the change. Something like “if this was not you…”.

Contact Plex Billing. They are the people that can help: https://www.plex.tv/contact/?option=billing-issues#p-contact

When you regain control, enable 2FA: Secure Your Account with Two-Factor Authentication.

Email received. I’ll reach out to billing. Thank you.

Action required: Notice of a potential security incident

Dear Plex User,
We have recently experienced a security incident that may potentially involve your Plex account information. We believe the actual impact of this incident is limited; however, action is required from you to ensure your account remains secure.

What happened
An unauthorized third party accessed a limited subset of customer data from one of our databases. While we quickly contained the incident, information that was accessed included emails, usernames, and securely hashed passwords.

Any account passwords that may have been accessed were securely hashed, in accordance with best practices, meaning they cannot be read by a third party. Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend you immediately reset your password by visiting https://plex.tv/reset. Rest assured that we do not store credit card data on our servers, so this information was not compromised in this incident.

What we’re doing
We’ve already addressed the method that this third party used to gain access to the system, and we’re undergoing additional reviews to ensure that the security of all of our systems is further hardened to prevent future attacks.

What you must do
We kindly request that you reset your Plex account password immediately by visiting https://plex.tv/reset. When doing so, there’s a checkbox to “Sign out connected devices after password change,” which we recommend you enable. This will sign you out of all your devices (including any Plex Media Server you own) for your security, and you will then need to sign back in with your new password. We understand that this means a little more work for you, but it will provide additional security to your account.

Additional Security Measures You Can Take
We remind you that no one at Plex will ever reach out to you over email to ask for a password or credit card number for payments. For further account protection, we also recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your Plex account if you haven’t already done so.

Lastly, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause you. We take pride in our security systems, which helped us quickly detect this incident, and we want to assure you that we are working swiftly to prevent potential future incidents from occurring.

Not exactly a confidence builder that Plex mods haven’t heard anything about this data breach, the last of which happened in September 2025…good that they redacted your email, though.

I am aware of no data breach. if you have some recent email saying there was I would love to know what it says and who it was from.

The breach email was from Sept 25. Either I missed it at the time, or just didn’t bother to change anything. The later is more likely.

I certinally did not see the email saying it was changed however. Bummer for me the window to act was only 7 days from the notification.

Reguardless, I appreciate the quick replies!

That appears to be the one they are referring to. There was no recent one I am aware of.

Billing got me back in, and amazing quick at that!

Looks like my account was being used by another, who deleted my servers, added their own and had a dozen people/devices connected to it. Wonder what a lifetime membership account goes for on the black market??

2fa set up to keep this from happening again.
