Not sure where to put this, but I’m unclear on how to setup user accounts.
I setup an old computer to work with Plex, and set it up so that it runs as a service. So far, it works within my local network…for me.
I setup several user accounts for my roomates, but I don’t know how to get them logged in from their devices. When I install plex on my roomates’ Playstation 4, I’m able to just generate a code from the server and link the device EZ-PZ.
But when I try to login my roomate from her Apple iPhone, it asks me to create a Plex account with email/PW, rather than connecting to my Plex Media Server. Is there a walk through available on how to get other users to be able to use the user accounts I created for them?
I found it’s easier to just have them (your roommate’s, my case it was my daughters’ boyfriend and a family friend) create a free account for plex then just send them an invite (to the email they used to sign up with) to share your libraries. They may have to pay the onetime fee for the app, but it saves a lot of issues on your end.
Echoing above, have them make their own free account. Managed users accounts are really for children where you have to sign in first with your account then switch to their user. regular accounts have their own username/password/email.
if they actually live with you then you can add their account to your Plex Home. ( since you have a Plex Pass anyone in your Plex home will not have to buy the mobile apps separately)
I sent my roomate an invite, she signed in with her account, and she’s on the local network, but the server shows as offline. This is really frustrating, I don’t understand why setting up the playstation was so easy to do, and every other device is so frustratingly un-cooperative. Now all the local managed accounts that I created have disappeared, which I don’t understand. But at least my roomate shows up now as a user account in the server, even though she sees the server as offline. Is there something I need to do to make the server show as available for her??
I appreciate the help, I’m just struggling to understand what the software wants from me.

Edit: It looks like it just let her in (?) I’m not sure what’s up with that. My other roomate is now waiting on his account to function. It shows “invite pending - awaiting their response” even though he’s accepted. It’s odd, and I’m not sure what the source of the delay is. If there was something I had to do on my end once they’ve accepted, I’m not sure what I did / need to do.
