I created a managed user for family member (who also has their own Google Account) because my Firestick does not seem to allow two different Plex accounts onto the player, but it will allow one user with one or two family members, as “Managed Users”
(1) I have not yet paid for the Android app on my Google Play account, but if I do pay for it (in my own Google Play account), will my managed user also then be able to use Android app on Android when logged into my Plex account?
(2) If the above is not a solution, then if my family member also purchases the app in their Google Play account, can they then log into and view my Plex server and library on their Android phone as one of my managed users?
The activation of the mobile apps is linked to the underlying App Store account (e.g. Google, Android, Apple accounts) – not your Plex account. Therefore you cannot purchase the activation for another Google Play account.
There’s no direct link between the Plex account they’ll use to access your server (e.g. your account with their managed user)… so this should work.
With those in-app purchases, Plex depends on the underlying mobile OS (here: Android / Google Play). It’s different if you’re talking about a Plex Pass membership. If you have a Plex Pass, the managed user will benefit from that and won’t need to activate the app for themselves (then again… it’s a 1-time fee vs. a monthly fee… so unless you want a Plex Pass for some of the other features that alone won’t tip the scale )
OK many thanks for that. So just to be clear, if my family member activates the Plex Android app on Google Play, that will be good to access any Plex account, either as a managed user on my account or to access their own account?
Don’t want them to pay to activate Plex app on their Google account and then not be able to use it to access my Plex account as a managed user.
