Android App(google play purchase)

Okay, my sister asked if I could get her android app activated on her second phone and I was dumb enough to say yes.

Wow! it’s way more complicated than I thought it would be.
I simply don’t get it. I mean, the 1st(activated but broken screen) shows her plex account login as some aol.com email but she is also logged into google via well, google’s “I take over your phone” account.

f-it. nevermind. I can’t deal with how plex/google does this. I’m gonna just give her my cracked copy. I mean she DID pay for it anyways.

thanks.

The app activation is tied to the Play Store account, not the Plex account. It doesn’t matter what Plex account you use, it depends on what Play Store account you use to install and/or update the app.

That’s the thing she has so many g accounts and CRS so I’m forced to read her mind or use a crystal ball. I’m done f*ing with her memory. She paid for it once from one of her g accounts so I’m good and don’t feel bad at giving her my copy.

Ha!! I thought giving my copy would fix her issues but no!, it didn’t! She can’t remember her plex login information! And she can’t remember her email password for which she used when creating an account with plex. AAAHH!!!

If she doesn’t delete her e-mail notifications from Plex or the Play Store you might be successful finding e.g. the purchase confirmation of the in-app activation

That’s the thing, she can’t access her email to find anysort of notification. I just found out this morning that her way of thinking was(probably still is). She thought she had to create a new email account whenever she got a new phone. She’s had alot of phones!!! And what compounds the issue is she would just create new email accounts when she forgot passwords.

Thanks. I found 6 g accounts on her old phone but none of them were the Gaccount that was used to register the plex app. She has 3 on her new phone but they too are not the account for which the app was registered. And not’s not all, she has apple devices and a whole lot of emails account to icloud. What a F@##$ mess.

I’m just gonna bite the bullet on this one and have her create a new plex account and I’ll just create shares to it. What a PITA!

Though, I now have a question about the android(maybe even apple) apps.
Do you not need to be logged into that account(gAccount/icloud) in order to unlock the app?

In other words… From what I’m seeing from her phone is you can use gAccount #1 to registered the app then later on, delete gAccount #1 from phone, add gAccount #2 to phone and the app will still be registered?

Okay… My sister is begging me to fix her issue. She doesn’t want a new plex account because she will loose watch status/etc… I’ve been tasked to try and find out her password for plex and what gmail account used to buy app.

I managed to find a few of her gmail accounts/passwords and my questions are.

  1. How can I see if plex was bought from that gAccount?
Sorry for my ignorance here. I have never downloaded anything from the app store or link payments or bought anything. But I’m hoping google has something similar to steam vault where it shows you your purchases

  2. The info I have from her share is the email that was used is @ aol .com.
Is access to this email absolutely needed to change(register new) plex email to another?

1 - Sign into the play store with the appropriate Google account. Then go to the account page, then Purchase History. It will show everything there.

2 - No, but you do need the password for the account to change the email address. If you don’t know the password, then yes you need access to the email to do a password reset.

I can help you fix that if it comes to it.

Well… So far we got 13 gMail accounts and 5 iCloud accounts.
I think I’ll be able to reset some to an earlier email and I think I’m gonna have her change her telephone # to an old one(assuming it’s not taken already) so we can do a password reset/recovery sent to phone. How fun…

you do realize, that with your plex pass you can simply invite her to your ‘home’ and it will activate her app as long as she is logged into a plex account that is in your home.

also, fwiw your sister is not the only one with multiple emails due to creating new ones when getting a new phone. I have certain family members who must be walked through the process of setting up a new phone, otherwise it becomes chaos.

Oh, I do, but plex f*ed that up.

Care to explain?

Media deletion was added to plex. And because of this I don’t have anything directly tied to my account outside the house. I don’t even use my account on my phone. I created a secondary account and share to it.

I don’t get it. You can turn that off in Plex Web and then you can’t delete from the app, even using your admin account.

You are right but plexweb(via hosted plex.tv app) can.

How?
I’ve disabled it on my server and neither the local nor hosted versions offer me an option to delete media files.

You can enable the option then you have the ability to delete.

Fair point…,
