Actor Biographies: Is this a ppermanent feature? Can it be disabled?

I’m wondering if there’s a way to disable the actor bio (photo, birth date, social media information)?

I realize this is likely a welcome feature but I may be an edge case and would prefer to see the media and not this additional information.

I realize I may be coming across as grouchy but I’m concerned about feature creep.

I’m a PLEX Pass member so maybe this can be an opt-out for those of us paying?

Your not the only one concerned with feature creep and how plex is doing things. Plex has been clever in the way they implemented discover credits & people search. On the one hand we have been given the much wanted features of cast bios along with cross library search. However, sneakily on the other hand the have forcibly re-introduced their discover features which caused an outcry a few months ago.

Personally, I see this as a betrayal, going against the spirit of [Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch) re-adding external content links within our own content. I also suspect many folks don’t realise fully what plex have done and the slippery road ahead. A small trickle of folks like yourself have but overtime I hope this dissatisfaction with grow.

Anyhow, what can you do as this cannot be disabled, they even stated so in their announcement doc. Nothing here is good but they are all options you can consider to limit what plex have done …

  1. enable Include adult content on your libraries advanced settings, force refreshing your libraries afterwards - this will disable the new bio pages (for now) when got to from within libraries but unfortunately can still be got to from search
  2. switch to a managed user instead of online cloud based plex user - managed user don’t have access to known for and filmography so those sections will be removed but overall bio remains
  3. disable external internet access on your clients - not ideal but will work when watching content locally - discover credits is all cloud based so if there is no access it won’t work
  4. pop over to Remove "Known For and Filmography" from Cast Discover Credits and vote if you agree

BTW… enabling Include adult content does not add that content on your server, it only enables the matching of that content if its found in your library. If no adult content is found then it won’t be matched.
