With the introduction of Discover Credits we now have much improved cast member implementation within plex giving us long suffering users the ability to filter cast across multiple libraries. This is a major step forward and a welcomed change.
However, its also added two what I would consider unwanted items which links off to the plex cloud and away from our personal media. These are Known For and Filmography.
Furthermore, managed users currently don’t show these sections. Technically it should be possible for fully fledged accounts to have a disable option added to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources for those of us who want it disabled.
I’m creating this feature request to plead the plex gods to give us control over this and allow us to disable these sections leaving us with just our own content and nothing else.
Okay, time to take the gloves off! This stealth inclusion of plex’s discover function within the cast credits is very sneaky. We had a way to fully disable discover but no more. Furthermore, the main reason I personally never wanted discover was that I do not want my family shared plex account being exposed to anything beyond MY hosted server.
Today, within a few clicks I can be taken to what I consider inappropriate content. Example, I have the certified 15a movie The Infiltrator (2016) — The Movie Database (TMDB) on my plex server. Now, when I select the cast member Elena Anaya who is in that movie and then scroll down to their Known For list I get these among other things …
Selecting either of these will give you an extra’s section where you can play the trailer for the movie. Not good !
Again, I have discover FULLY disabled and I also have extra’s disabled on my libraries. This is my curated server and my content. I do not want this. Plex has sneakily placed this front and central within cast profiles. Not happy at all plex, not at all !!!
They did the same with the watchlist since it came out, and it’s still there. We still can’t have our personalized posters and every time we open it, we have to make another additional click to see the content, otherwise we only see Discover, even with it deactivated.
It seems that they are determined to want to put it, the first time it went wrong, but they will keep trying, doing it in a subtle way until they achieve it.
