Actors of movie are not shown

Hello there,
I have a question / a problem with my movies.

There are a couple of Movies, that do not show the cast members, and since there are no cast members it will not show that specific movie, when you search for an actor.
Instead of the actors, there is sometimes only a Number under an empty circle, where the picture should be. There are many of these movies on my server, and I do not understand how I can fix this problem.

Is there anything I should try?

Thank you very much in advance.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I tried the first one out, and it did not work. I did not try the Plex Dance, because I just checked how many movies are affected by this problem. There are over 500 Actors listed with the “Name” starting with “757424_” in my Movie Library. If I would search for each actor, than find the movie that uses this “actor”, then delete it from my library, it would take hours or days… I don’t have the time right now to do this, but I might in the future.

Is there any other way that I could try out? Or a known problem that causes this?

Thank you again for your time!
Greetings

Logs please (Full set) so we can see what the agents are doing?

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-11-24_22-39-58.zip (4.4 MB)

Okay, I just attached the whole Zip File, since I don’t know what exactly you’ll need. I hope this helps?

Thank you for your support.

Oh, the Photos are taking some time because I just bought Plex Pass and enabled automatic tagging. We have a lot of photos, so that may take some time. But in the “activity” info it does not say anything anymore, so I guess it is finished with that for now.

Yes, many of those movies have been added through the last 15 months, so it is not easy to find those in the logs I guess. But I just saw, that the lastly added movie (“Die Frau des Polizisten”) has this problem as well.

From what I have seen so far, each movie that is affected, has one “actor” listed. So when I search for one of those specific actors, it will only show one movie. As a result I can not just search for 757424_, since it will only show many actors (but not all, like when I add my own filter during a search in a library), with each one movie. This way I can’t just select all of those movies. I would need to do them one by one.

And also, that 500 actors I said, were only in one Library (Movies / “Filme”), whereas there are another hundreds in a different library (Documentaries / “Dokumentationen”)…

Is there a way to add an own filter and search for an actor, without selecting a specific one from the drop down menu? Like Actor -> “contains” -> 757424_ ? (Like when I search by title)

Thank again for your help.

I just deleted the content of both folders, and refreshed the metadata on one affected movie. It did not change anything for that movie unfortunately.

Now I created a new Library (and new folder) with the same movie copied there, but the mistake is still there.

I just checked something and realised, that it might not be the Agents fault, that the information is wrong. I realized, that only movies (all movies) from a specific source are affected. Every Movie downloaded with “Save.tv” (It is a german paid web-service to record and download content that is aired on TV).

So, this way I can sort my movies by folder and select the folder with that content, and now I am able to select every affected movie easily. Tho, I don’t know if it might help anyways now.

Also I just saw, that the number that is in front of every “actor” is my ID on Save.tv… So it is save tv for sure, who is making this “actor”. Is there any way that I can find out where this information is saved, and make Plex ignore it?

I just checked one of the Files on Windows and took a look in the properties. The “actor” is listed under “Contributing artists” (At least I think that is what the english translation in windows would be).

So I guess, I need to remove these for every file. Is there a possibility to make Plex ignore that information instead?

Thank you again very much.

If the file is a MKV, editing the information is very easy. The tool mkvpropedit allows you to change these fields without remuxing the file again.

MP4 files require you process them (without re-encoding)… I believe.
I have heard of a tool which allows MP4 alteration but do not know its name / have evidence of the tool existence

Unfortunately, all of the files are .mp4. In Windows I can easily delete those information from a file, and also from multiple files through the properties. But on my Diskstation it will probably be harder, since I don’t even know a way to display those properties.

Would it be possible to remove the information (“by hand” on windows) and then refresh metadata on Plex?

Thank you, I’ll try it out, as soon as I am in the Local Network of my NAS again. Thanks!

So, I am in the Local Network of my NAS again, and I just tried to delete the Metadata and then see if it works.

Well, if I just delete it, and then Refreshed Metadate, analyzed and also tried to unmatch and then match the movie again, but for those movies, that have already been in Plex, it does not change.

But I just added a new movie from Save TV, with the same tag, that I deleted before I uploaded it on my NAS, and there it works without a problem.

Is there a way to fix all of the 500+ Movies, without having to delete them from Plex, then re-uploading it to my NAS with the edited Properties?

Thank you again very much.

Oh, of course. Sorry, I forgot about the Plex Dance. I’ll do it now and give an update, if it worked properly. Thanks!

Okay, I finished each step. It took much longer than I expected, because of one problem:

We have many multiple movies (From different sources) which were matched with the save tv version with the weird actor number, and basically after removing the 757… version, the matched ones kept the number obviously, although the original files containing that information was removed. So I still had to hand pick around 100 movies from 5 different folders and edit them. But I finished it, and now Plex is reading all of the new files. So far it looks good, and the problem seems to be solved.

Thank you very much for your help, it took some time in general, but now I am happy that it is finally fixed.
