I’m certain this is a rather niche suggestion, so I don’t see it garnering much support but I figure I’d throw it out there cause why not?
I’ve recently been collecting a lot of 4k movies and such, because I got a new 4k TV and would like to make the most of it. While plex already does a wonderful job of showing what format a certain video item is in, it would be nice if plex helped us out just a tad bit further.
Here’s a visual example of what I’d like plex to do:
Of course, I can manually edit the posters myself (as done in the example), but as said above it would be nice if plex could help with this, seeing as it does everything else already.
There is a current feature suggestion already asking for something similar. I know it’s slightly different but If it would fit your needs you can take your vote back and add it to this one with more votes
I agree it would be nice feature but those posters would have to be available from the places Plex pulls metadata from. (TVDB, TMDB, IMDB) That’s not something Plex can control
Similar to their suggestion, Plex could keep the art asset (i.e the blue “bluray” banner and the black 4k UHD banner) and affix it to the top/over the poster, which would remove the need for plex to scan for the specific art containing it.
Yeah I suppose that’s an idea but all movie posters are different.
If you look at those 4k or bluray posters they are altered from the original poster so that banner fits properly and doesn’t cover other important parts of the poster. A one size fits all could be a problem.
In a lot of cases It would end up covering the name of the movie or going right over someones face
I haven’t read through that other feature suggestion. Maybe they have some ideas on how to avoid that
In addition to the existing suggestion linked by @JaysPlex there‘s also another similar suggestion discussing an option to place such a frame around the poster/cover. Please comment/vote in those threads in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
