I’ve been waiting for months a fix for adding new podcasts in the Plex library but it seems that it is not that easy to implement. It seems that i am not the only one : Cannot add podcast by url - #79 by kza1312
I suggest that among movies/tv/music/photos/games you add a new library type “Podcasts” so that we can manage them on our own.
For now i have a RSS feed manager downloading my podcast episodes into a folder podcast in the music folder of Plex, which then i manually add in a music collection. I don’t like this manual part, so a work around would be to create this Podcast library type.
Why do you guys think ?
regards
edit: ofc it should be also implemented in plexamp
I think that a library type could be a possible solution to the ongoing podcast problems. Right now, from what I understand, it’s handled on the Plex server side, unlike other podcast managers, and that’s what creates a bunch of limits and sync issues. Podcast listening isn’t even logged into the play history, so it shows or presents as a legacy or “add on” which would be much better integrated.
I’ve considered doing what you do, but it just feels irritating and cumbersome to have to think about it that way. when the server should be able to manage it. With the great features that are provided inside downloads, making the Podcast a library and integrating these features is the next best step. Hopefully the Plex roadmap considers this direction.
