Currently, Plex doesn’t allow Podcast and Audiobook fans to add purchased content from a PC or server.
Many of us have purchased Podcasts to support the creator that aren’t available via public feeds. And some of us have purchased audiobooks as well. Both types of files are always in MP3 or other Plex-supported audio formats.
But Plex only supports adding Podcasts from existing public feeds - which is exceptionally limiting considering the multiple Podcast sources available - especially private or unedited versions of public podcasts available only via fan membership or Patreon contributions.
Plex doesn’t allow Podcast and Audiobook fans to add their purchased content.
Very similar to Plex, the Android app called Podcast Addict has this feature - and calls it a ‘Virtual’ Podcast. When a user creates a virtual podcast, the app requires you to point to one or more directories (just like Plex Libraries when you create or manage them). Once created, the directory structure is scanned and the contents presented in a useful order - just as if they had come from public RSS/URL feeds.
By adding this feature, the following directory structure and contents could be added to a Plex Podcast Library just like Plex does today for all other library types - even though the files aren’t available via a public URL, RSS feed or OPML import:
\volume1\Podcasts\SaysYou
\volume1\Podcasts\SaysYou\Season 1
\volume1\Podcasts\SaysYou\Season 2
\volume1\Podcasts\Alternative80s Podcast (Patreon)\
\volume1\Podcasts\American History by Michael Medved
\volume1\Podcasts\American History by Michael Medved\The Revolutionary War
Thanks, Plex Team - and keep up the great work!
