Feature Request: Podcast Media Type/Controls

Apologies if this has already been requested, but I couldn’t find it via a forum search.

I love Plex, and I use it for everything, including my podcasts. The only thing is, it falls a little short in playing them. I would love to see the following:

  • Library definition for Podcasts (currently, the only option is “Music”)

  • Once defined, the podcast player controls would include 15 sec ffwd & rwd buttons to quickly change listening position. Optionally, as other podcast players do, it could also include audio speed-up/slow-down controls (0.5x, 1.5x, 2x, etc).

There is a lot of potential and other possibilities that could also be implemented within such a Podcast definition (chapter advancing with cover image changing, etc), but the above are just the very basic features.

Anyway, thank you to the entire Plex team for making such a great application, and I hope you’ll consider this request!

A “listened/unlistened” label would also be nice (like the watched/unwatched label on movies/shows).

I should also note that these features would work for Audiobooks as well.

Agree. Features definitely missing for audiobooks and podcasts are:

  • the “listened/unlistened” label
  • remember the time where a podcast was stopped to keep playing from that moment.

I listen to Hardcore History, the podcast episodes are 5hours long. I listen to this in intervals when I have time, so it is really hard to listen to this show with Plex.

The new Plex Pass Gracenote music library type has an option in it to remember the spot you leave off in an audio file. Works great for podcasts.> @fluxcapacitor01 said:

I just installed gpodder and used it to pull down a few podcasts that I am looking to rediscover and quickly realized that I need a listen/unlisted way to sync them to my phone.

I’d love to see this featured added.

+1 on this feature request. Plex is the perfect platform for me to sync my listening progress on a podcast between devices. iTunes has an API for fetching podcast data, so there should be a way for plex to populate things like cover art and descriptions and whatnot.

@fluxcapacitor01 Plex does currently have an option for remembering position. Here’s how to use it:

  1. In Plex Media Server, if you don’t already have a library specifically for your podcasts, create one using “Music” as the library type. I just called it “Podcasts” to differentiate from my other audio libraries.

  2. On the left side panel, go to “Advanced”, and tick the box that says “Store track progress”, as seen here:

Simple as that!

+1 for podcast support.

+1 for podcast support.

+1 Podcast and Audiobooks support.

+1 for audiobooks support. Podcasts are often transient, disposable media, but I can see how supporting serial audio programs of all kinds would be helpful.

I haven’t been able to find a good way to label/sort audiobooks that are parts of series either. I don’t like lumping Title and Series into one sort field, so I’m currently using the “Composer” field to tag my audiobooks/classic radio shows/full-cast audio performances/podcasts/lectures/stand-up comedy/etc. with whatever series it belongs to. I hope Plex can help.

Audiobook and podcast support would make me seriously consider getting a Plex Pass. I’m adding my +1 for that functionality.

+1 Podcast and Audiobooks support.

+1! too short…

+1 Here for native Audiobook support!

+1! Make it a real library!

Really all thats missing to PLEX!

Also a scraper for additional information would be great since usually there is a lot of additional information in the rss feed post or even the original post of the podcast… It would be a great feature to “archive” podcasts…
