Add ability to downgrade 4k high bitrate to lower bitrate during a stream

image
With high quality 4k Dolby Vision movies, it can reach 90 mbps. It would be nice to limit it to a specific bitrate under my home upload speed.
I’m asking for this to have custom bitrates that we could set, instead of it defaulting to “auto”.
Would be nice to have a custom range, too.

For what particular clients are you missing this?
On the iOS client I can already pick a number of 4K quality options, e.g.

  • 4K (high) - 40 Mbps
  • 4K (medium) - 30 Mbps
  • 4K - 25 Mbps

I can see those options aren’t available on the web client.

I see them on the iOS client but do not see them on:
LG Web OS
Amazon Fire Stick (4k or 4k max)
Android TV: Nvidia Shield Pro
Google TV

Have you tried clicking on “Show All” in the screenshot you posted? That might show you the “missing” options.

Yes, I’ve done “Show All” on them all.

To add on this, please add 4K options everywhere for the quality profiles, not only during the stream, but also in the client and server limits.

I’m in the process of setting up a new plex server with GPU (always used arm64) for transcoding on remote connections. I always assumed on the fly downgrading 4K to a lower bitrate 4K was possible… So it in fact isn’t? Seems pretty unreasonable to have that limitation, can’t see any reason for it to even exist…
Does anyone know if JellyFin allows that?

Read above… server will be handling this but apparently not all clients offer lower-bitrate 4K quality targets/options.

I think there should be 4k bitrate selection options just like there is for 1080p. 4k content seems to be neglected with plex.
