Add ability to filter by Video profile

I have found that Plex has difficulty playing a movie with a H.264 profile of High. The video is slow and jumpy when played using Plex on my 12th gen i7 or the Sony Bravia TV. The movie is fine if played using another app like VLC media player.

To help me find movies with this setting before trying to watch them, I would love to see a filter in Plex for Video profile with options ‘Baseline’, ‘Main’, ‘High’.

No, it doesn’t. I encode all my video with the High profile and they will play practically on every device.

So do you have any suggestions why all videos with the High profile are slow and jumpy but work when re-encoded to Main?

Please post the first ~20 lines from the Plex XML info of some affected videos.

During playback of an affected item, do also monitor the Plex activity dashboard with activated Detail view, to see whether any transcoding happens and whether the connection between server and client is local, remote, or relayed. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200871837-status-and-dashboard/

I have replaced the videos I found. I put back the latest one and have attached Plex XML info and screenshot of dashboard

. The connections are local. The dashboard status switches between Buffering and Playing about each second. Both video and audio are Direct Play. CPU goes up to ~40%.

Well, well, well. I ran faulty video through VideoProc without changing settings (including High profile) and both MKV and MP4 work. Thanks for the solution.

I don’t know what VideoProc is and what it does. If it is transcoding, then my solution is better (and faster) as it avoids re-encoding the video stream, which always leads to a quality degradation.

VideoProc has an auto copy setting which retains video and audio without re-encoding. Done in seconds.
