Is there a way for local users to add their own picture, or other image to their user account? Stupid I know, but its always kinda fun to see something more than the generic icon for my user account.
This was just recently changed. You should now be able to alter your picture by logging in on Plex Web, click on your current picture at the top right corner, chose Account and then change.
What about for user accounts I create? I donāt see a way to change those profile imagesā¦can you??

You log into those accounts and then edit the avatar the same way as your own.
From your account click on your picture, select switch user, select the managed user, click their picture, and then account. From there you should be able to select edit under the picture section.
My account is different, the one I created on the server says āmanaged userā. If I switch user and select that account, there isnāt a option to change the icon.
If I click on the icon, I have the options of
users
get plex app
help
switch user
Nothing to edit the manged user account
What version of the server are you running? I believe you either need to be using version 1.6.0+ or using the plex.tv/web portal which is running the most up-to-date version of the web app. This function was added in 3.4.0 (of plex web) but that wasnāt merged until 1.6 of the server. However, plex.tv/web will always host the most recent version of the web client until the server remerges the updated version.
Why would a āmanaged userā with for example, any number of restrictions, be allowed to change their own avatar? Why canāt the server admin account change any/all avatar images directly from the USERS settings page?

Since the admin can easily ābecomeā anyone of his managed users, it is very easy nonetheless.
Having to switch user to each user one at a time and then click a few more times to select the account setting is āeasyā when compared to editing the avatar image from the same place all other attributes of the managed accounts are set? And it makes any kind of sense?
The answer to both of those is no. Itās just bad UI and UX design.

Why wouldnāt a managed user be allowed to choose their own avatar? Look at these forums. Every user has a default avatar, randomly assigned by the system, until they add their own. Most applications I can think of, if they allow custom avatars at all, allow users to pick their own.
Weāre not talking about the forum. Weāre talking about a managed server in oneās home. Where as an administrator one should be allowed to set access restrictions, NAMES and avatars and keep them all locked down. Everything except the avatar is edited in the USERS settings by the admin.
Thatās a careless design omission. The managed users (regardless of whom they are) wonāt be able to set avatars from a TV UI, so the images must be set by the administrator. Having to step out of settings and manually jump into each user account is cumbersome and nonsensical.

Managed users are not restricted to certain devices. They can access Plex Web as well, and change their own avatars.
FACEPALM is all I can post at this point. Please donāt attempt to instruct me on how to manage my network and user accounts. Iāve been doing this for over 30 years.
Iām not sure if youāre trying to wind me up or if you just donāt understand the premise of centralized admin account management.
Incidentally, let everyone know sometime how to access āPlex Webā from an embedded system like a TV.
Well, excuse the hell out of me, your majesty. I was only pointing out that your statement that the avatar MUST be set by the administrator is incorrect. If your users donāt have access to a computer, thatās a different issue. GFY.
