Add Collection Management in Implicit Playlists

Description:
Plex does not currently allow automatic playlist creation based on a collection to ensure a logical sequence of media. It would be useful to add collection management in implicit playlists so that the player intelligently queues related media.

Requested features:

  • If a user finishes a movie or episode from a collection, Plex should automatically suggest the next one in the collection order.
  • Example:
    • Watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone should be followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets without manual intervention.
    • Seamlessly transition between seasons and movies in series where movies fit between seasons (Initial D, Dragon Ball).

This feature would enable smooth and coherent playback of related content without requiring manual input.

If you play a collection, the post play screen should already offer the next item in the collection. With autoplay enabled, that item should play.

So I’m not exactly sure what your suggestion is about. Maybe I’m missing something.

I’ll try to clarify my point.

Currently, the implicit playlist only works for series (and probably music), but it does not take collections into account.

Let’s take the example of the Initial D series: seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5 consist of regular episodes, while season 3 is a movie. Both the movie and the series are part of the same collection under the same name.

I would like the implicit playlist to be extended to collections. This would allow continuous playback of videos, whether they are movies or series, within the same collection.

In my example, the ideal scenario would be that when the last episode of season 2 is finished, the next video to play is the movie (season 3), and after the movie ends, the playback continues with the following seasons of the series.

The playlist is already based on the release date, so it would simply be a matter of applying the same principle while also considering collections, regardless of the content type or library.

Other alternatives are possible. In fact, I have submitted another feature request related to this topic. Currently, whether it’s playlists or collections, the management is very limited and not really user-friendly.

As it stands, a playlist or a collection cannot be resumed from the Continue Watching section. Additionally, it is not possible to resume playback from their dedicated page, as starting a new playback always restarts from the beginning.

Is it clearer? Sorry, I’m doing the best I can. It’s not necessarily easy to explain, and English is not my first language.

In that case you might want to comment/vote in this existing suggestion to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

For me, it’s not really the same thing. My request is about extending the implicit list to collections (any collection with the same name, regardless of the library or type—movie/series), whereas the issue you mentioned concerns a different problem, cross-series, meaning series that are linked together.

However, it is indeed very close. In both cases, it’s a request for unified collections. From what I understand, your request only concerns collections of the same type and not implicit playlists.

However, if the creator of the post agrees to extend their request by adding mine, I have no objection to it.

The other suggestion covers both.

Mmm ok

Straight from the other suggestions OP.
