Have been successfully using Plex for several months.
The following is in a TV folder as a Video folder does not allow separate folders for different subjects. I guess I could add a separate folder for each show/broadcast/webinar. That would be messy from the player side of things.
I am trying to add videos from a facebook stream (Or webinars that I am subscribed to ) but can not get titles to stick in plex.
I have the title saved in the file name and I have added the title to the episode directly (This disappears when I add another episode to the folder and run a scan)
First:
Put this ‘Show’ in a TV Show Library
Fix Match/Search Options/Personal Media (from the Agent Dropdown)
Select the only show that appears in the list - all done
that will stop Plex from trying to match it - and blowing your edits.
Then do this:
That will stop Plex from sticking a bogus embedded title field into the ‘episode name’ - and freak you out cause you don’t know where it’s coming from…
After that - maintain the Show/Season/Episode structure - 'cause TV Shows won’t work any other way (even when they’re Personal Media)…
A TV Show Library/
.....Chef Todd/
.........Season 01/
............Chef Todd - S01E01 - Todd boils a (already dead) mouse.mp4
............Chef Todd - S01E02 - Eating Something that won't stop moving.mp4
............and so on....
Hand Edit for Effect. <—the changes you make will stick now.
Note:
There is no elegant way to get an ‘Episode Name’ to show up ‘automagically’.
There is a painful, tedious, time consuming PITA way, but trust me - hand editing is much quicker.
Always include an Episode Name - so you’ll see what it is while you’re editing it. The ‘Title’ is the ‘Episode Name’ - blank, of course, until you fill it in. <—along with any and all of that other stuff to make it ‘look real’ and have proper function.
Note 2:
You could use ‘Year Seasons/Episodes’:
A TV Show Library/
.......Chef Todd/
...........Season 1944/
..............Chef Todd - S1944E01 - Dirt, Laces N Boot Casserole.mp4
..............Chef Todd - S1944E02 - 5 Star Foxhole Fare, sans Fox.mp4
..............Chef Todd - S1944E03 - Eating The Ardennes, 1 bite at a time.mp4
perhaps even date based episodes, but really, you’ll have to experiment with it - I have no first hand experience:
There should be something in here you can make use of…
Create something wonderful. <—'cause you’re going to be building it one brick at a time, and in time, you’ll see what you want.
FixMatch/Search Options/Personal Media - can’t find that.
Under Agents in sidebar I have Movies, Shows, Artists, Albums and Photos.
No choices in 4 of those other than LocalMediaAssets and PersonalMedia.
Under ALL those tabs in Shows and Movies - Drag Local Media Assets to the bottom of the stack of Active Agents. There are areas in Shows and Movies and for each Major Agent - do them all. Do NOT disable Local Media Assets, simply ‘Demote’ it down the list. Easy.
As for Fix Match/Personal Media - Start from The Show’s home page, not season or episode view - then follow along:
Search - and then pick the only show in the list - that’s your show.
From that moment on that show is Personal Media and Plex won’t touch it - other than to play what’s there.
Didn’t work the first time. Went back and reconfirmed everything and now is working fine. (Missed clicking something) I now have a whole bunch of episodes to enter titles now that I know they will stick!
